Crispy Baked Cheese Crackers
Crispy Baked Cheese Crackers
By: Jenn Alberts
Do you love cheeze-its but want to make a homemade version? Try out this simple recipe, only a few ingredients! The kids can help cut shapes and make the crackers.
You can experiment with different kinds of cheese, shapes, thickness of dough, and baking time. The thinner you roll these out, the crispier they are!
These delicious crackers don’t last long at our house, but leftovers store well in an airtight container for at least a week.
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350F.
Step 2
In a food processor add shredded cheese, butter, salt, onion powder and garlic powder and pulse until incorporated. Mixture will be crumbly.
Add flour and pulse until the flour is incorporated.
Step 3
Add 2 Tbsp of water and pulse until the mixture sticks together. Add remaining 1-2 tablespoons of water if the dough is too dry.
Step 4
Make a ball and then press dough between two pieces of wax or parchment paper to create a disk. Flour a clean surface and roll out dough very thin – about 1/8”. The thinner the dough the crispier your crackers.
Step 5
Cut with knife or pizza cutter into squares or your desired shapes. If you poke a hole right in the middle of your cracker they will resemble a cheeze-it!
Step 6
Place crackers on baking sheet and sprinkle lightly with coarse salt.
Step 7
Bake for 16-19 minutes. Crackers are done when they are a light to a medium golden brown.
Step 8
Store in airtight container for up to a week… if they last that long!
